About this submission

In my creative work, I amplify female-driven narratives. After experiencing the dissolution of an intimate, long-term friendship mid-college, I felt compelled to write a story about how in life, we sometimes grow out of meaningful relationships that no longer serve us, and how that's okay, although poignantly disappointing and sad. In the film, along with explorations of what it means to be a friend, I examine the dichotomies of girlhood (the hellishness, the acutely soft and feminine, etc.) through atmospheric, dreamlike visuals that bridge the gap between adolescence and adulthood, and all the personal growth that occurs in between.
