In this Advisor Studio, U.S. grant funding specialist and Sundance Producing Lab alumna, Tracie Holder, will share her insights - from research to writing proposals and pitching - so that you can put your best foot forward the next time you apply for a grant.


Tracie has been awarded grants of more than $3 million for her projects from prominent funders including Ford Foundation, Sundance Documentary Fund, Catapult, Chicken & Egg, National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, ITVS, CPB, and MacArthur Foundation. She has also led grant writing workshops on behalf of Women Make Movies, Gotham Film & Media, Black Public Media, Creative Capital, Brown Girls Doc Mafia, IFDA, Sheffield, DOC NYC, New York Foundation for the Arts, among others.

Tracie Holder

Tracie Holder is a filmmaker, consultant, producer and U.S. film funding specialist. She is the co-director/producer of Joe Papp in Five Acts, (Tribeca Film Festival/PBS American Masters). A 2016 Sundance Creative Producer Fellow, Holder leads workshops, tutors and serves on juries at international pitching and training forums. She has been awarded grant awards of more than $3 million for her projects from prominent funders including Ford Foundation, ITVS, Sundance, Catapult, Chicken & Egg, National Endowment for the Arts, among others. Clients include: IDFA, Ramallah Doc, Lisbon Docs, DOC NYC, Chicken & Egg, Black Public Media, Creative Capital, Gotham Film & Media Institute, Brown Girls Doc Mafia, among others. Holder was a longtime consultant to Women Make Movies and served as the Development & Funding Strategist for Abby Disney’s Fork Films. She is a former board member of NY Women in Film and grant panelist for national and local U.S. funders. Producing credits include Grit, (Hot Docs/POV) and Small Town Universe and Give It a Shot, in production. She is currently developing The People’s Will, about a riot in New York in 1849 over a production of Macbeth that led to the death of 22 people. Katherine "Kat" Street is an LA-based award-winning filmmaker and Philadelphia native. A cinephile at heart, she writes female-driven stories with complex (oftentimes damaged) main characters, centered around self-discovery, self-love, and belonging. She has written numerous short-form projects, including original shorts, pilots, and features. She wrote and directed the dramatic short film “Cycles,” which received festival recognition in both acting and best romantic short. She also created her award-winning flagship web series "The New Adult,” which is currently streaming on Kweli TV. Kat is a Stowe Story Lab SAGIndie Fellow and a participant in the BlackMagic Collective Emerging Filmmakers Initiative. In 2021, she founded the Black Film Challenge, a project that showcases filmmakers of African descent and the movies they create. She earned her BFA from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a concentration in Cinematography and has literary representation with Culture Creative Entertainment. more...
