Adobe Atmos - Jay Valencia Sound Design
Creator
Originally from the Bay Area, Marin County. Now living in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
I have loved chopping, recording and tweaking sounds ever since I was a kid with a Realistic mic and portable tape deck. I play drums and make music as a way of life and love using Pro Tools and Abelton Live to create sound design and electronic music. I think I feel at home when Pro Tools is under my fingers. I feel part of this creative world.
I've wanted to work at Skywalker Sound since I was ten years old when it was called Sprocket Systems. I listened to the Star Wars radio plays on the weekends. Started DJing at KSRH San Rafael radio and mixing became something I shared with a group of friends that all went on to their own careers.
I am always recording or sampling something around the house, in town or on vacation. I love turning the most mundane sounds like a door slam into a drum beat or a vacuum into a sound bed. Originality comes first, but I have come to appreciate the support of sound libraries.
Recording rural high desert ambiences, Dolby Atmos mixing and experimental music are my favorite hobbies now. Constantly learning new psychoacoustical techniques that reach deep into our subconcious with sound frequencies patterns and always looking for new projects that want to incorporate spatial audio. I especially like sci-fi and even horror which can be a hilariously satisfying type of sound work to create. Recording original sound effects is definitely what I do best. I have always noticed that the best sound is the one you record.
I would love to see what kind of projects you're working on.
Thank you Sundance and Dolby Creator Labs for this opportunity.
