I had two close friends growing up. We were a trio. Somewhere along the line, one of my friend's mom and the other's dad ended up dating. They essentially became stepsisters. I saw my friends ' relationship change from best friends to stepsisters to estranged. While "A Dream Apart" is only loosely inspired by my childhood friends, I think this story is a common one, in that we grow apart when things change, but perhaps we should grow together instead.
