Elizabeth Mirzaei

Director/Cinematographer

Elizabeth Mirzaei is a director and cinematographer of nonfiction films. Her first feature documentary, LAILA AT THE BRIDGE, screened and won awards at dozens of festivals, including Locarno, CPH:DOX, Edinburgh, Sheffield and Santa Barbara.


She lived in Afghanistan for many years, where she directed and filmed documentaries for Al Jazeera, the BBC, Discovery, NHK and ABC among others. Her work has also been supported by Tribeca Film Institute, Cal Humanities, the Bertha Foundation, and the Moving Picture Institute. Elizabeth’s cinematography has been featured in films shown at Venice, TIFF and on POV. She is a 2020 Film Independent Documentary Fellow and lives in California with her family.
