Sam Sargeant

Director of Photography

Los Angeles, California, United States

Sam Sargeant is a proud Ginger who found his soul behind the lens and has always felt something greater than himself in storytelling. He’s easily pulled in by character-driven cinema and loves stories that explore the ideas of justice, mercy and self/redemption. Sam is an award-winning filmmaker with a foundation in documentary and has naturally gravitated towards narrative cinematic storytelling.

After receiving his BS in Communication with an emphasis on Video Production from Brigham Young University-Idaho. Sam continued his pursuit of Higher Education and earned his MFA in Film Production with a Cinematography discipline at the highly esteemed Dodge College of Film and Media Arts of Chapman University.

Actively practicing as a Director of Photography, one of his greatest strengths is his association with people. Sam earned three mentorships with members of The American Society of Cinematographers with Bill Dill, ASC, Johnny Jensen, ASC, and Peter Levy, ASC, ACS, with the hope and expectation of one day earning the title Cinematographer, a Master of Light. Sam believes strongly in the core values presented by the ASC of Loyalty, Progress & Artistry. He strives to continue this tradition and is finding ways to foster and nurture these values through meaningful storytelling with a moving lens.

Currently based in Los Angeles, his work has taken him all over the globe to film in places such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy and most recently Taiwan. His favorite part of this work remains constant, being the people he meets along the way and the meaningful relationships he develops with them. He strongly believes the greatest production he’ll ever work on, is that of himself and his ever growing film family with the desire to tell a simple life story, well told.
