Laurie Collyer is a writer/director living in Brooklyn, NY. A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, alumnus of the Sundance Screenwriter's and Director's labs, and the Cannes Film Festival's Cinefondation residence for emerging filmmakers, Collyer has been making movies and television for 18 years.

Writing and directing credits include Sherrybaby (2006) which earned numerous awards and nominations including the National Board of Review’s Award for Top Independent Film and a Golden Globe nomination for actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, Best Screenplay and FIPRESCI Prize at the Deauville American Film Festival, Best Film and Best Actress at the Karlovy Vary and Stockholm Film Festivals. And Sunlight Jr. (2013) which features Naomi Watts and Matt Dillon as down and out lovers living in a motel in Florida. Sunlight Jr. premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was distributed by the Samuel Goldwyn Company.

She recently directed Furlough (2018), starring Tessa Thompson, Melissa Leo, Whoopi Goldberg and Edgar Ramirez. Written by Barry Strugatz, Furlough was distributed last year by IFC.

In 2015 Collyer directed the miniseries The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe. Featuring Kelli Garner, Susan Sarandon and Emily Watson, the miniseries earned a DGA nomination for its directing team, as well as Emmy nominations in Cinematography, Hair and Makeup. Additionally, Ms. Sarandon was nominated for a SAG Award.

Collyer's debut feature, documentary Nuyorican Dream (2000), premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and later broadcast on HBO. The doc received much acclaim including her first DGA nomination and prizes from numerous film festivals.

Collyer's writing credits include Story of a Girl (2017) for Kyra Sedgwick and Lifetime TV, Cowgirl Ranch (2014) for LD Entertainment and Bootstrapper (2015) for Rachel Weisz and Archer Grey Entertainment. She is just wrapped an episode of Billions for Showtime.
