This pathway is also an evolving resource and all of the sections will continue to be built out with additional information. To this end, we encourage you to recommend resources that have been especially valuable to you that we can share with our community.

If you’re interested in a deeper learning experience, including feedback from a Sundance Advisor, please check out our Online Courses. They provide a live, instructor-guided experience over eight weeks.

We’ll delve into the different types of producers shortly, but know that their duties often overlap. For this Learning Pathway, we will focus on the holistic producer, who is responsible for having a broad view of everything that goes on in the life of a project, creatively and practically. Sometimes this person is also called the “Creative Producer,” which is not an official industry job title, but remains a popular moniker to describe the person who oversees everything from script development to acquiring financing, pre-production, production through post, and finally distribution. Essentially this person manages the team, budget, and assets, from start to finish.

This Learning Pathway offers you a wealth of resources to explore the essential elements of fiction producing so you can effectively lead and collaborate with your team, to bring your creative projects into existence.
