The accordion was a constant sound throughout my childhood, first with my grandfather and when he passed, my father. I could vaguely remember a really exciting night when the whole family gathered together at my Uncle Tom's to hear my father play his newly retrieved accordion. But I wanted to know more, so I asked my dad, "what's the story with getting grandpa's accordion back anyway?". What I didn't realize is I would learn a lot more. What I thought was a simple story turned into an understanding of my father's connection to his accordion and his father.
Special thanks to my father, Chris Whelan for willing to be raw on camera and for sharing his talent. As well as his band The Shananigans for the additional music.
