Jason Gray returns home for a weekend and is tragically killed in a drive-by shooting along with his friend Ron. He appears in The Compass and is greeted by William, The Assessor. William informs Jason that he must plead a case to The Council if wishes to remain alive on earth. If Jason is not granted life he will spend the remainder of his life in a scorched world known as The Crate. The Council begins Playback and finds Jason remorseful. When Jason awakes from his hospital bed, he recognizes the doctors are members of The Compass.
