About this submission

The city of Ithaca, New York has the reputation of being "ten square miles surrounded by reality" due to the supposed liberal safe-haven it offers in contrast to its rural, conservative surroundings. What lies beneath this facade are neglected systemic issues such as rampant homelessness, poverty, and deadly racism, all kept under wraps in order to maintain the status quo. This is the perspective of the oppressed.
