I wanted to tell a story that took the structure of a fairy tale in a modern setting. Since the film was shot in Kenya, a country that I was visiting for the first time, i wanted to make something with a universal theme. The story recounts the return of a father to his home town, after having left for multiple years, and his desire to reconnect with his son even though the townspeople are hostile towards him. My aim was to use this universal longing to create a story that could transcend social differences and resonate with all people.
