About this submission

I wanted to explore how in times of crisis, we tend to build barriers instead of bridges (given all the divisions that sprouted last year). From hate crimes, cancel culture, to political parties, you name it. All of it encased in a mother daughter story that introduces us to not only the art of Shadow puppetry (Wayang kulit) but also to the Javanese mysticism. Similar to filmmaking, the art form of Wayang is a male-dominated industry and needs to adapt and evolve with the modern world, which translates to the similarities I share with the protagonist and her beliefs.
