About this submission

"Saigu" is about Grace, a Korean-American teenager, and Jamie, a Black teenager, finding themselves stuck in the same convenience store owned by Grace's Uncle: Han, who has gone out to help defend another store during the 1992 LA Riots. The two work to sort out their own judgements and assumptions of each other, all the while Los Angeles goes up in flames, the anger at the acquittal of Rodney King and tension between the Black and Korean community in South Central boils over, in a film directed by Bryant Hyun.
