About this submission
On her last day in Paris, a young American navigates the awkwardness of a new French love encounter compounded by a language barrier. This short was inspired by the movement "La Vanité," which represents the ticking time, the passing of youth. A wilting rose, smoke, an hourglass, a skull, a young woman and her reflection - what are these symbols in modern day? With words and symbols, this film expresses the teeter-totter feel and translational confusion of her coming-of-age — trying to speak between the “languages ” of youth and maturity, French and English, present and memory, permanence and transience.
