About this submission
Growing up biracial for me meant embracing one national identity and erasing the other. When my mother moved to France from Malaysia, she chose not to share her language or her culture with me, perhaps due to the trauma that she experienced there. Being largely detached from her homeland made me feel adrift. In "Home is a Floating World", through phone conversations and images shot during lockdown, I reflect on my relationship with her and how her past lives on in me in ways I’d never previously considered.
