Bert Rogers, one of the most accomplished and acclaimed Tall Ship captains, was once just a boy from Iowa. The ocean changed his life. Sailing changed his life. He wrote copious, meaningful letters about his life at sea, as well as his vision of getting everyone on a boat. A week after his sudden passing, his wife, Dona, uncovered a box of these letters. Together, Dona and her son James explore their contents, process their grief, and channel it into realizing Bert’s mission of creating a scholarship fund to send young adults out to sea.
