Introducing a character is a key moment for you as a Creator: Write, film, or record a scene or sequence that introduces your protagonist that gives us access to the character and makes us care about what's going to happen next, a moment we decide we're in!


Films or Audio Pieces: Up to 10 minutes in length

Scripts: Up to 15 pages in length


CHALLENGE RULES

Our Sundance Challenges are open to all members of the Co//ab community. Each person who participates will receive a completed feedback form on the work they submit by one of our Sundance judges, and winners will receive Sundance membership and a one-on-one mentoring session with one of the Sundance curatorial team. 


The winning submissions will be featured on the site prominently, but all submissions will be viewable to the community. All submissions will be given equal consideration and the final winners will be determined by the consensus of the Sundance judges.


Only those submissions that meet the criteria outlined in the submission guidelines will be able to be selected as the winner.

Meet Our Jury
Head of Production and Development at Likely Story
Stefanie Azpiazu is the Head of Production and Development at Likely Story, as well as a founding member of the company. The bi-coastal production company was created in 2006.
Producer
Tracey Bing has over two decades of experience in the entertainment industry.
Senior Manager of Artist Development at Film Independent
Angela C. Lee is the Senior Manager of Artist Development at Film Independent where she oversees the selection process and curriculum for the Filmmaker Labs program, including the Screenwriting, Directing, Episodic, and Producing Labs and the Fast Track Finance Market.
Director, Cinematographer
Bing Liu grew up making DIY films as a teenager. He began working in film while attaining a BA in literature from the University of Illinois.
Independent Filmmaker, Programmer and Writer
Jim Mendiola is an independent filmmaker, programmer, and writer based in Texas. A Rockefeller Intercultural Media Fellow, Mendiola's films have screened in numerous film festivals, museums, and colleges in the U.S., Mexico and Europe, public television and cable TV.
Producer
Peter Saraf’s producing credits include LOVING, THREE GENERATIONS, THE KINGS OF SUMMER, ME HIM HER, SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED, OUR IDIOT BROTHER, JACK GOES BOATING, SUNSHINE CLEANING, AWAY WE GO, IS ANYBODY THERE?, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED, THE TRUTH ABOUT CHARLIE, ADAPTATION, ULEE'S GOLD, and the feature documentaries MANDELA, and THE AGRONOMIST.
Actress, Writer, Director
Asensio is an international actress, writer and director from Spain, currently living in Brooklyn, New York. Her first feature film as a writer/director, MOST BEAUTIFUL ISLAND won the Grand Jury Prize at SXSW 2017, played in over fifty film festivals around the world and it was nominated for the John Cassavetes Award at the Film Independent Spirit Awards 2018.

Technical Details

Accepted Video File Formats: AVI, FLV, MOV, MP4 or MPEG-2. Note: If you choose to upload a .MOV file make sure that it is not using the Apple ProRes compression. We do not support reading Apple ProRes files or raw camera formats like ARRI and RED at this time.

Please do not include special characters in your titles as this may interfere with the file processing.
