About this submission

There is still a common loneliness through which many black Americans navigate when afforded post-secondary educational opportunities, often producing social and physical distance between ourselves and our community. Throughout a study away program my final semester of undergrad, self reflection during social exchanges with the white majority of students caused "out of body experiences" in which I would consider my compromised relationship to the people of my hometown who did not have similar opportunities: people with whom I'd grown up who perhaps are more deserving than typical students.
