About this submission
On January 28th 2019, Malaysia Goodson, 22, fell to her death while hauling her one-year-old daughter in her stroller down subway stairs in midtown Manhattan. Her death prompted me to delve into the city’s disability activist community to understand the factors that allowed how such an event could happen.
Accessibility is about universality. We want to challenge the view of disability pity with the sentiment that fostering an inclusive society elevates the living standards of all people. We seek to educate our mostly able-bodied audience on a side of New York City they may not have initially been aware of.
