I was in high school and 30 minutes away from the Sandy Hook shooting. I remember that day so vividly and the way my mom looked at me when I got home from school. When writing the script I was able to talk to parents of victims that survived Sandy Hook. When talking to them it made me realize that the trauma these students and families face, live with them forever. I wanted 8 Minutes perspective to give audiences a chance to think about what happens after the children gets evacuated and focus on a survivor rather than a shooter.
